Check-In Post - Jan 8th 2026

Hello to all members, passers-by, curious onlookers, and shy lurkers, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.

Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

This Week's Question: What are your crafting goals for 2026?

If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.

I now declare this Check-In OPEN!

Vance: ICE agents have “absolute immunity” from state laws – including murder

JD Vance said – in response to a reporter asking why the FBI and Federal agencies were blocking Minnesota’s investigation into the ICE agent murder of Renee Nicole Good – that ICE agents have “absolute immunity” from state laws.

Screen photograph of JD Vance at the White House podium on CNN with the chyron "BREAKING NEWS | LIVE: VANCE: ICE AGENT WHO KILLED RENEE GOOD 'PROTECTED BY ABSOLUTE IMMUNITY'"

This is not law. This is fascism.

The Friday Five for 9 January 2026

These questions were written by [livejournal.com profile] losseloth.

1. Do you have a favourite cause that you support?

2. If so, how do you support it?

3. Have you been an active member of an organization (attending meetings, volunteering, etc)?

4. Have you ever led any group?

5. If so, how was your experience with it?
OR: 5. If not, why, is it a conscious choice, of lack of opportunity?

Copy and paste to your own journal, then reply to this post with a link to your answers. If your journal is private or friends-only, you can post your full answers in the comments below.

If you'd like to suggest questions for a future Friday Five, then do so on DreamWidth or LiveJournal. Old sets that were used have been deleted, so we encourage you to suggest some more!

Magazine article for Single Medieval Women

I'm very excited to say that an article was recently published in the Abbey Museum of Art & Archaeology's magazine, Lindisfarne, all about my favourite thing! Well, my second favourite thing... Single Medieval Women! I've got to admit, my all time favourite thing is talking about all that behind-the-bedroom doors stuff from their lives!

It's a brief overview about who was actually single in society and what they actually did with their time whilst they were a small child, waiting to marry, or avoiding it completely!

If you'd like to learn more and would like to dip your toe into this world, you'll find an entire book, written by yours truly. It's not an academic read, because it's aimed at all of you lovely readers who know only what you've learned from Game of Thrones (oh no!) and enjoyed at your local renfaire (loads of fun but rife with historical inaccuracies!)

More paternosters!

You'll be getting sick on hearing about them, but to add to the range of for sale paternosters, I'm making some with just plain wooden beads in two colours. These will be the cheapest, just with wool tassels, some home spun and undyed and others commercially dyed in a red.

This will give me a few price ranges so a small momento can be had for a low price, but it can be nice too!

Momento Mori Pasternoster

So here's the cutest of them all, the skulls paternoster! Technically, the original has little knots in between, from memory, but as this will again not be for re-enactors, I feel it'll be a good seller. I'm not making too may of these, as the beads are a bit more expensive, and I don't want to have too many sitting around and be out of pocket.

You've gotta admit... the goth crowd are gonna love these!
