Seamwork Lex jumper (aka sweatshirt)
Seamwork's Lex is your classic jumper/sweatshirt; medium-weight knit fabric, contrasting neckline, cuffs, and hem. Even includes pouch pocket and optional hood bonus. A wardrobe stable.
I got this light-weight glitter unicorn jersey (in lilac and grey marl) a long time ago. That project did not work out, and I wasn't really a big enough fan of the fabric to try and make it work. (It is a lot more yellow and gold than I expected from something described as 'lilac and grey marl'.) But figured I could sure use the excess fabric for prototyping.
For the contrast bands I used black knit cuff ribbing, 95% cotton 5% spandex, 285gsm. My first time using actual ribbing.
Based on finished garment measurements I went with a 16 Curvy. Basic pattern, minus the pocket and hood. It came together very quickly. Front, back, two (dropped) sleeves, neckband, cuffs, and hem. I did twin-needle stitching (in black thread) around the neckline and hem. Done. The fit works quite well. Which was a surprise. I was expecting to need to tweak things, but this is exactly as described. Even the neckband isn't too high/tight. So instead of a prototype I have a finished garment. I know the fabric is a lot, but with the ribbing it seems more hipster than age-inappropriate? Hopefully. I might see if I can try and work this into my wardrobe, for those rare days when being a moving shadow isn't desirable.
