Well, it's silicon-based, and that's actually a hard question to answer. It's hard/solid plastic, but the surface feels soft (and slightly fuzzy). I'd say it's softer than the rest of the plastic in the goggles, and it can be bent and such. But certainly harder than all rubbers/erasures I know.v
