Seamwork Camden cape

2024-Jun-27, Thursday 06:00 pm
Large chunk of the world is going through extreme temperatures, so naturally I want to talk about a wool cloak.

Seamwork's Camden is a lined mid-thigh-length cloak. Two arm slits, front button closure. That's it, nice and simple. I opted for a size 18 (this is, again, an earlier pattern, so there's no separate Curvy range). I made a partial toile of the lining, and decided to lower the arm slits by about 3cms, but that's it.

Seamwork Chip knit jacket

2024-May-22, Wednesday 11:00 am
Seamwork's Chip is a motorcycle-style jacket. Except it's actually a knit cardigan, just a funky looking one with an overlapping front section and zip closure. You might be noticing a trend in layering and outerwear pieces of late. And you would be right on the money. I'm going camping at the end of the month, and am over-thinking the whole thing. I was saddened to discover that the natural fibres I'd been favouring are the exact worst possible thing to wear while camping in this wet and often chilly climate. The best natural 'fabrics' are wool, and down (duck or goose). Otherwise polyester is what I need. *sigh*

Seamwork's Audrey is a denim jacket you can sew without flat-felling seams. You've seen me make one before, but you know what makes everything better? That's right, purple.

Seamwork Jesse gilet

Seamwork's Jesse is a gilet. Which is just a French word for 'vest', but being French elevates it somehow. Or, at least, helps differentiate it from the million other sleeveless tops that English speakers like to call 'vests'. This is the outerwear, outdoor, body-warmer, type.

Seamwork's Quince is a 'day robe'. Which means, that depending on the length and fabric choices, this could be a dressing gown, or a formal top-layer loose (unlined) jacket. The pattern is a collection of rectangles, with some curves for the front and back neckline. It's a simple style, which lends itself to letting the fabric shine.

Which I mean literally. Details )

Seamwork's Audrey is a sweet little denim jacket. It has a great many pieces, and the breast pockets are fake, but I absolutely completely and utterly adore this jacket! I made mine in a fairly light-weight dark navy denim. I did not do contrast stitching. The breast pockets may be fake (though the flaps are great for attaching badges) but there are welt pockets on the tummy! It was only my second time (that I recall) ever making welt pockets, so they aren't perfect, but they certainly do work. The buttons had to be hammered on (with a rubber camping mallet), and I always get confused about which side they go on. I know I got it wrong because my plankets (I made plankets!) are twisted. I finished the seams on the overlocker, and had to fight my sewing machine to get the buttonholes to happen on some parts which are multiple layers thick. But it all works, looks really good, and has been perfect for the unusually warm weather lately. I intend to make more, in many colours.
