Seamwork's Quince is a 'day robe'. Which means, that depending on the length and fabric choices, this could be a dressing gown, or a formal top-layer loose (unlined) jacket. The pattern is a collection of rectangles, with some curves for the front and back neckline. It's a simple style, which lends itself to letting the fabric shine.

Which I mean literally. I saw this shimmer glitter jersey in teal, 97% polyester, 3% spandex, 180gsm, and I thought 'party'. So I got this fabric, for just such an event, then found the Quince pattern to use it with. The usual experience of shopping online is being slightly disappointed when the fabric arrives, as it isn't exactly as imagined from the the shop photo. That is not the case with this fabric. It is impossible to photograph it accurately. Firstly, it has a di(tri?)-chromatic colouring. Primarily a green-teal, but with a noticeable red shift, and a less noticeable yellow-shift, depending on how the light hits it. Secondly, when they said glitter they meant it, very literally. If the wind changes this fabric sheds glitter. It goes everywhere. Sewing it left me covered in green glitter head to toe. (I probably should have been wearing a FFP2/N95 mask.) Since completing the garment I have hosed it down multiple times, and it is still shedding. This is the type of fabric you really only get away with wearing on the very odd occasion. But in real life, with it, and the light it reflects, in constant movement, it is a glorious riot for the eyes. (The matching thread I used is Gütermann colour 189.)

Going by the finished garment measurements, and wanting this to be a boxy, but not particularly over-sized, fit I went with a size 12 (again, this pattern is from the old range, so no misses vs curvy to differentiate). It's a good fit. I could have gone up a size, the arms around the 90-degree underarm seam are a touch snug, but I feel that has more to do with the 90-degree seam than anything else. I went for the short option, included the patch pockets, and the belt and belt loops (though I doubt I'll make use of them).

The neckband started to twist down the front as I was sewing, but I didn't really enjoy being covered in a layer of glitter, so I just let it be, and hoped pressing it would reduce the issue. It doesn't help much, but everyone is so hypnotised by the fabric that they don't seem to notice. (And good news is, it is a glitter that hoovers and washes away cleanly, so I don't expect to be finding bits in ten years time.)
