George + Ginger's The Teen Spirit Top is the boxy over-sized t-shirt I just won't quit. I've made it before (v1, v2s) and I'm making it again.
This time I went for a size 14 (the larger L). Again with the regular length, straight hem, with neckband and no hood. I did include sleeves, but I shortened them to 9cm, to hit my elbow bend. I also took 4cm off the length of the front and back pieces.
I made it up in one of my favourite feeling fabrics, black bamboo jersey, 95% bamboo, 5% spandex, 220gsm. I messed up the cutting though, and had to add a centre-back seam. (I need to be more cautious about placing pieces on the fold.) I used the walking foot with 4.0mm twin needle again on the cuffs, but it did a really strange thing; almost pin-tucking the fabric between the lines of stitching, and causing the seam to curl, in a way that looks almost cut-off. But it kept trying to run off the side of the fabric, so for the hem I just used a single needle in a straight stitch. (Which should lay better when I press it.)
It fits exactly as I wanted. The bamboo has more drape than the cotton-knits do, which is an appreciated change. The sleeve hits exactly in the bend of my elbow, and the length hits mid-pelvis bone. It is boxy, and slightly-oversized, though nowhere near what the pattern intends. Just a really nice, and easy to wear, basic tee.
