To refresh, receiving Butterick B6287 was a surprise, as it was used as the packing material in an order, and was not actually part of my order. But I enjoy a good puzzle so I made view C; a knit tunic with diagonal pieced front and back sections with a raw hem. But now I want to make view D, which is the version with the complete/regular hem, sleeves, and no cowl.
I want to make a smaller size this time, so I traced the size XL (20-22) all over again. Keeping everything as patterned except taking off more length from the sleeves, a total of -36.5cm length.
The fabrics are plain organic cotton jersey, 95% cotton 5% elastane, 210gsm, in teal and dark grey. A ballpoint needle, and black thread. That's all. Cutting the pieces takes the longest time, sewing is quite straight forward, even if there are a lot of seams. I allowed a 5/8" seam allowance, and used lightning/stretch stitch everywhere, except the hem and neckline where I used straight stitch. The hem and neckline are once turned, at 5/8", and stitched at 1/2". The sleeves are once turned at 1", and stitched at about 3/4". I didn't even finish any seams, so this went very quickly.
The fit is much better this time, fitted through the bust as the pattern says it should. But there is an excess of fabric pooling on the lower back. And I don't really feel like darting this. The length is short dress/tunic on me, perfect for use with leggings. And the sleeve length is slightly above the bend in my arms, so exactly what I wanted. A cute little jersey dress I hope to get some wear out of.
(The sewing area has been packed away, so probably won't be any more sewing projects until the New Year.)
