Seamwork Riley woven top
2025-Oct-22, Wednesday 12:00 amSeamwork's Riley is a simple sleeveless woven top pattern. With a high neck, and self-fabric ties at the waist. Just a front piece, with bust darts, and a back piece. Bias tape facings. No closures.
(Not dissimilar to what I did to the Clarke.)
I used a brightly coloured horror and skull themed printed fabric, likely a polycotton blend, black polycotton single fold bias tape, and black thread. A straight stitch, and a universal foot. Serging/overlocking the raw edges on the shoulder and side seams.
I made a size 16 Curvy, and ended up needing to extend the bust darts +6.5cm (each) towards the centre front. This was good practice adding bias tape facings. The turned up hem is the tie casing, so I added a second row of stitching for strength. The Curvy sizes front is noticeably longer, and if gathered with the ties would sit closer to the back hem level. But I probably won't add ties, just leave the hem loose. I'm not sure if I'd shorten the front on future versions yet, but it does tent out annoyingly. (Again, like the Clarke.) The neck just about fits over my head, but not with my hair up or my glasses on, so I'd lower it on any future versions. Haven't had a chance to wear it yet, but should shortly. Will it convince me that woven tops can be a good option?
