So, you need a NorthPaw (http://sensebridge.net/projects/northpaw/instructions/step-1/) for compass, and LEDs for display. As you're using a cap you can use wire if you prefer, as it will be hard to sew the cap unless you get a really soft one. It's essentially step 2 of that link, but LEDs instead of vibrating boards. Then add enough batteries, and hide the circuit in the cap. Flashlight would be a separate circuit most likely. But yeah, totally doable, and looks like fun!
