Electrical kits: LED Art
2010-Jan-28, Thursday 03:38 pmI have recently seen the wisdom of following specific projects before trying to create your own from scratch. And as I am currently trying to find time to learn about electronic components, circuits, and soldering, I thought I'd try a couple. Seems the quality varies greatly. I bought a couple of kits from MakerShed, including the LED Art Kit, from blinkybug. This is what you get:

Basically, 3 RGB LEDs, two crimps, and a battery pack. There is no soldering in this kit, stick the LED legs into the crimps, and squeeze with a pliers. Repeat for battery pack leads. Whole construction time is 15 minutes. It ends up looking a little like:
It doesn't blink like that to the human eye, that's a consequence of the camera. They also make a suggestion of covering the LEDs with some hot glue to diffuse the light, and I gotta say, it does work nicely. Not sure it's worth $20+shipping, but it is cute.
